Every summer in Australia a great number of University College rooms were vacant, while hotels and hostels are bursting full of travellers.
The idea of providing an online booking service for University Colleges around Australia so they could let their vacant rooms during student holidays was born some years ago. We know people who have experienced a casual stay in a College and they were raving about it.
Residential University Colleges are a fabulous yet underutilized resource for the provision of casual accommodation.
Aiming to link the public and the Colleges this site was established in 2010.
A casual stay in a University College is much more pleasant than staying in a cheap hotel. Not only are University Colleges usually situated close to the City centre on lovely grounds and in unique sandstone buildings but they usually offer Bed & Breakfast, the use of Common Rooms (some with fire place and plasma TV) all at an affordable price.
Although the Colleges are close to the city centre they are a world away set in peaceful surrounds with luxuriant gardens, ovals, and tennis and basketball courts. The buildings themselves take guests back to another era yet have modern conveniences.
The advantage of a university room over a hostel is that guests don’t have to share their bedroom. In University Colleges bookings are by the room so single travellers can book a single room at a very affordable price.
Double and twin rooms are also available. Most visitors are tourists or have come for a conference and are out and about during the day. However, Colleges also have guest lounges where it is possible to relax reading a book or watching TV. Or guests may prefer to just sit and unwind in one of the garden or lawn areas.
Colleges offer a more personal atmosphere than that found in a hotel and are larger than most B & B s yet still retain the personal touch.
